Warren County to Host WFDF 2018 World Ultimate Club Championships

Warren County, OH (October 17, 2016) – The World Flying Disc Federation (WFDF) has selected Warren County, Ohio as host for its 2018 World Ultimate Club Championships (WUCC). More than 3,000 athletes from over 50 countries are expected to participate in this globally popular event.

The tournament is scheduled to take place July 14-21, 2018, and will be held at the Lebanon Sports Complex with the finals to be held at a yet to be determined local high school.

“This tournament is projected to be among the largest sporting events ever hosted in the region and will be a significant source of economic impact for Warren County,” said Ben Huffman, Director of Sports Marketing for the Warren County Convention & Visitors Bureau (WCCVB).

“The sport of Ultimate is enjoying an all-time growth in global popularity, and that’s evidenced by events like these that bring thousands of athletes and fans from all around the world to communities like ours,” Huffman said. “The WCCVB looks forward to working alongside Cincinnati Ultimate Players Association, USA Ultimate, and the WFDF in putting on an event that will benefit both their sport and our county significantly.”

Huffman estimates the WFDF WUCC will generate approximately $3 million in economic impact for Warren County, while also accounting for an estimated 10,000 room nights at local hotels and bed & breakfasts.

Warren County was named host of the 2018 event following a lengthy selection process—an accomplishment Phillip S. Smith, President and CEO of the WCCVB, attributes to the county’s off-the-field offerings.

“We certainly aren’t the only community in the world capable of hosting a successful Ultimate event, but what really sets us apart is our ability to promise outstanding experiences both on and off our playing fields,” Smith said. “Traveling athletes and their supporters are always looking for fun, relaxing ways to spend their downtime during these several-day tournaments, so our county’s terrific array of entertainment, dining, shopping, and lodging amenities makes us an attractive option to event planners.”

The WFDF 2018 World Ultimate Club Championships will not be Warren County’s first experience hosting an Ultimate event. The WCCVB has worked locally with Cincinnati Ultimate Players to host more than 21 events over the past ten years, and is also slated to play host to the 2017 USA Ultimate College Nationals next Memorial Day Weekend.
