Father's Day Ideas and Giveaway!

With Father's Day right around the corner we wanted take a minute to reflect on some of the great things to do with dad  in Warren County as well as get some ideas from you. Share some of your favorite Father's Day activities in the comments below and you could win a great getaway for you and your dad (details at the bottom)!

Canoeing family

Canoeing:
Take dad on an outdoor adventure! With multiple liveries along the Little Miami Scenic River, you can paddle your way downstream and discover for yourself why the Little Miami is one of the Top 10 scenic rivers in the country. Whether aboard a canoe, kayak or raft, you will quickly see that the excellent water quality, gentle current and abundant wildlife make the Little Miami River the region's premier recreational waterway for family trips, beginner outings and experienced excursions.

Fishing:
If there's one thing dad knows how to do, its bait a hook. Take him down along the banks of the Little Miami River, or out to Caesar Creek State Park near Waynesville. Anglers of all ages will enjoy fishing for smallmouth and largemouth bass as well as some of the best crappie fishing in the state. Before you go be sure to download the lake map as well as attain a valid Ohio fishing license.

LM&M Railroad
Trains:
If your dad's like mine he's fascinated with trains - displays, memorabilia and the engines themselves. If so, the LM&M Railroad makes a great excursion! Hop on for a one hour train ride that will take you on a journey through the beautiful rolling countryside of Warren County and listen to the conductor tell the history of the area and the railroad itself. Also, you could take your train enthusiast to EnterTRAINment Junction, the home of the world's largest indoor train display with 25,000 sq. ft. of model trains. With additional attractions like the A-Maze-N Funhouse it's fun the whole family will enjoy.

Golf

Golf:
What father doesn't enjoy an afternoon on the links? In Warren County you'll find a challenging mix of golf courses designed to test golfers of all skill levels, including 4 championship courses and one of the top public golf courses in Ohio, Shaker Run Golf Club. Course like The Golf Center at Kings Island, Crooked Tree Golf Course and many more are ready to challenge your game, so tee it up and spend the day with your father playing courses designed by Ohio icon Jack Nicklaus and famous golf architect Arthur Hills.

Now it's your turn! Tell us your favorite father's day activity from the past or what you plan to do this June 17th and you will be entered to win a great getaway for you and dad that includes:

Winner will be chosen randomly and will be contacted via email.

This year will be my husband's first Father's Day. I still have yet to come up with something good for him to remember his first Father's Day. With my father we normally just go out to eat at his choosing (usually Red Lobster YUM!)

We're doing "Hop On Pop" for Fathers Day. We filled 75 balloons with little notes, drawings, reasons we love Daddy, etc. We will blow them up and then have a game of having Daddy & kids pop balloons to read the notes stuffed inside.

I would love for my husband to win this get away. He is a wonderful father. 2 years ago we got married and blended our 2 families. So he became a step father to my son who's father passed away 5 yrs ago. Then 2 months after we were married my step children's mother passed away so we are now raising all of our children together and it has had alot of struggles and trials but my husband has been amazing. He deserves a break

My favorite place to go is the gorgeous Hocking Hills State Park area known as Old Man's Cave! My dad, father of 12, always took us camping every summer there and I'm hard pressed to think of a more lovely outdoor spot in all of OH! We'll be picinicing at Norwalk Memorial Park with him, thank goodness, as his greatest joy is playing patriarch over the dozens of offsprings and grandchildren he's sired! Love you dad!

Posted By geretma | 06/07/2012 2:00 PM
Something that includes my Dad, my husband, and my son in law to be:) Canoeing would be fun! We did a lot of that as a kid w my Dad!! Xxoo

Posted By abroom | 06/07/2012 3:44 PM
For fathers day I usually let my husband pick what he wants to do. One fathers day the kids and I took him out to eat then we went on a hike. It was fun trying to stay up with the kids which made it a memorable day.

Posted By mlshonce | 06/07/2012 4:45 PM
Thw best part of Father's day is the family time! Quality time spent together not having to rush here or there. Just being able to enjoy e.ch other.

Posted By BbGrl30 | 06/07/2012 4:48 PM
The best part about Father's Day is spending time together as a family and honoring an amazing man, my kids father. We will probably spend the day at the beach then go out to a nice dinner.

Posted By OCPacific10 | 06/07/2012 7:09 PM
Favorite father's day activity from the past was to stop at ISALY's Dairy after church and get a rainbow ice cream cone.

Posted By emawoman | 06/07/2012 7:33 PM
We have always done a project around the house for my father. It would be nice to travel and have some fun this year.

This year we are planning on going to Kings Island and spend the day!

Posted By rjwelling@hotmail.com | 06/08/2012 5:46 AM
My 4 daughters plan on taking their daddy out to eat for breakfast and packing a picnic lunch for after a hike. Then out to the lake for some fishing & Kayaking. After a long day of fun, building a bonfire in the back yard toasting up marshmallows & wieners. That is the plan for a perfect Father's Day this year, just appropriate for the best dad ever!

Posted By Momof4girls | 06/08/2012 5:48 AM
My nine-year-old son has been doing extra chores to earn money to buy a special gift for his father for Father's Day. (I suspect it will be a video game they can play together.) I'm making my husband a super-soft, super-warm blanket with paw prints on it to show him that he's the "Top Dog"!

Posted By dboer1222@gmail.com | 06/08/2012 6:10 AM
My favorite father's day activity is grilling with my dad,it's how i learned how to grill better than my husband!

Posted By christina898 | 06/08/2012 6:33 AM
My son was born on Father's day so his birthday is always around the holiday. We love to have a Father's day/Birthday celebration with a big cookout. Some years we have made it to our favorite Summer destination-Kings Island, but that sometimes has to wait until later in the Summer. Dad (& the kids) always enjoy spending Father's day together no matter what it is we do.

Posted By Yakamo3x3 | 06/08/2012 8:44 AM
My hubby loves to spend Fathers Day morning golfing with the guys and then coming home to a fun family bbq. He has been having back issues and cannot golf this year so this little trip would be perfect for us.

Posted By jandk2299 | 06/08/2012 9:47 AM
We got to church as a family then usually a cook-out at some time during the day. Its a day of relaxing at our house, playing with our 2 year old son. Would love to win this as he loves trains!

Posted By crystal45614 | 06/08/2012 11:20 AM
Last year, my husband had to be out of town for father's day, so my then 5-year-old daughter decided to throw him a welcome home/father's day party. She made decorations out of construction paper and hung them around the dining room, and I made a peach/blackberry cake that I knew he'd love. When he arrived home, we surprised him with a late father's day. :-)

Posted By theworldinmykitchen | 06/08/2012 11:46 AM
Last year for Fathers Day we took my husband and my Dad to Kings Island. It was an awesome day. Everyone had so much fun!

Last year Dad was not working, so we spent the day at home playing games at the house. We are looking forward to going somewhere this time for his special day. Hope We win!

Posted By HeatherS | 06/08/2012 1:27 PM
We are doing canoeing this fathers day because it is also our daughter's birthday this year. We usually spend the morning fishing and the afternoon working in the yard.

We will be serving dad breakfast in bed then heading down mad river on a canoe trip and some fishing and fun

Posted By stephaniea4321 | 06/08/2012 6:49 PM
My best father's day memory was the year I entered a contest in the Chicago Tribune. I drew a picture of my dad and wrote why he was the best dad in the world. Even though I didn't win the prize, they printed my entry along with a select few in the paper. I was so proud when I gave it to my dad for father's day. Now looking back at that now as a parent, I can see how special my dad probably felt.

Posted By smiley1683 | 06/08/2012 8:30 PM
This will be a very special Father's Day. Our son who was born with Spina Bifida was chosen as the Children's Miracle Network Champion for the State of Ohio 2012! My husband has been the best dad to a son with many challenges! We have been invited to Michigan International Speedway to see our first NASCAR race on Father's Day! My husband and son are big NASCAR fans and they hope to meet their favorite driver!

Posted By Stepha66 | 06/08/2012 9:35 PM

Posted By mcmd8700 | 06/09/2012 9:09 AM

Posted By gramags | 06/10/2012 6:53 AM
We are planning on letting Daddy sleep in, then take him out for brunch and spend the rest of the day at Kings Island riding rides

Posted By colemaka | 06/10/2012 7:34 AM
We like to go out on my dad's motor boat. We take a picnic, go tubing, and get out to swim in the lake.

Posted By jencarangi | 06/10/2012 10:27 AM
We will be celebrating Father's Day this year with our high school graduate and extended family visiting. Our son is joining the Air Force and could be stationed elsewhere next Father's Day. My husband has dedicated himself to being involved with our two sons(our other son just turned 13). He works long hours as a UPS driver but still found time to coach our graduates hockey teams from age 5-high school and was thouroughly involved in his boy scouts and he acheived being an Eagle Scout. This trip would be an incredible experience to share.

Posted By Carolyn10 | 06/10/2012 5:36 PM
This year because money is tight I thought me and my son would take dad out on our friends boat for the day and let him put a line or two in the water with his son. I love to see my husbend and his son do the thing they love most together, nothing could make me more happy. :)

Posted By Csuth10 | 06/11/2012 12:51 AM
Spending the day with dad and siblings, including grand & great grand children. Challenge Dad to a game of corn hole or letting him choose to fish or just relax, followed by a dinner where everyone makes a dish of all our favorites.

Posted By sleesmith | 06/11/2012 11:06 AM
We celebrate Father's Day all week by letting dad make requests and honoring them. he reallly likes having a whole week of favors from me and the kids.

Posted By Sunnymay | 06/11/2012 11:56 AM
The kids and i make breakfast for dad and let him enjoy one of his favorite things for a fewlong hours- play video games. Then we all enjoy a cookout and movie together.

Posted By Sondragarcia | 06/12/2012 12:43 PM
I printed out a fill in the blank "about my dad" and let our son, who's almost 5, fill it out. He also drew a picture of him and his daddy. We're going to also buy some jelly beans and fill a jar and I will have my son tell me all the things he loves about his Daddy and we will count jelly beans with every thing he says about his Daddy :) This is his last Father's Day as a father of one...we're expecting another boy in September! I think our Daddy deserves a little spoiling and I appreciate the chance for this :)

Posted By HShults26 | 06/12/2012 7:43 PM
My family usually gets together and we have Larosa's pizza.

Posted By shopper-c | 06/14/2012 6:11 AM
I will wash my Dads car then we will go fishing and I am going to clean and grill what we catch, Take some corn on the cob and some homemade Pasta salad with Beer! Dads favorite day :D

Posted By Hollyjackson1975 | 06/14/2012 5:11 PM
I usually make a nice breakfast, or we'll throw some good steaks on the grill to celebrate Father's Day. Also, we'll make an elaborate dessert. Either a pie or 3-layer cake. It's a day to celebrate Dad and all the foods he loves!

Posted By mom22kids1 | 06/14/2012 6:48 PM
Father's day is special for your dad. He is generally low maintenance but since he works very hard as a police officer, we usually barbecue on a grand scale and enjoy a favorite movie with him and the family surrounding him.

Posted By Therkesha1 | 06/15/2012 7:24 AM
The family gets together at my parents house for a cook out and Bocci Ball in the yard....well, our version of Bocci Ball, anyway. it's more free form than with actual rules, lol.

Posted By amymack74 | 06/15/2012 9:02 AM
I helped my little girls decorate a coffee mug for Daddy (he loves coffee) and in the morning we will make him chocolate chip or M&M pancakes (haven't decided which) -with homemade whipped cream.

That is...~after~ we let him sleep in for the morning. Which is what I am sure he really wants anyway.

Posted By panursedeann | 06/16/2012 12:27 PM
A tradition my Dad and I had growing up was every Father's Day we would get up early, go eat breakfast at a restaurant and then spend the day fishing.

It was the best times of my life.

Posted By 2talltodd | 06/16/2012 3:18 PM
My sister and I are taking our dad on a fishing trip this fathers day at our favorite lake, we are going to picnic at our usual spot and spend the day relaxing and hopefully catch a few fish for dinner.

My husband is a stay at home Dad to our 2 year so this would be such a nice treat! I plan on spoiling him tomorrow...!

Posted By ReesieD | 06/16/2012 5:23 PM
Unfortunately, my husband has to work all day on Father's Day so we won't get to spend any time together. We plan to make him a nice dinner and a cookie cake and he can enjoy it when he gets home from working hard all day.

Posted By ajb1831 | 06/16/2012 5:27 PM
I don't know about MY favorite Father's Day memory, but my husband's was probably the year that I took the kids out of the house so he could relax and do nothing for hours:)

Posted By eversolefam | 06/16/2012 5:29 PM
I just finished making a Father's Day cake, and in the morning the kids will give their dad homemade gifts!
