Morning: Be on the lookout for all kinds of wildlife in and around the Little Miami, a National Scenic River, as you float peacefully in a guided, non-capsizable raft at Morgan’s Rafting Adventures. Learn the history of the river valley from your guide, all the while taking in the beauty of your surroundings. Enjoy lunch on the banks of the River at a private picnic shelter complete with modern comforts.
Afternoon: After lunch, skip over to historic downtown Lebanon for a banana split or an ice cream cone (with sprinkles) at the Village Ice Cream Parlor before boarding The Cincinnati Railway. Relax on this nostalgic excursion and experience rail travel much as it was in the glory days of railroading. During this one-hour ride through the rural countryside of Lebanon, you will learn the history of the train’s route and Warren County’s early days.
Evening: Meet your spiritual guide for the Ghostly Tales & Tour of Waynesville, known as the Antique Capital of the Midwest and Ohio’s most haunted village. The evening meal takes place at the Hammel House, an old stagecoach stop with a ghost or two of its own.
Morning: Time for fossil hunting and bird-watching at Caesar Creek Lake, one of those “best kept secrets” for the outdoors crowd. Begin with a stop at the Visitor’s Center, operated by the Corps of Engineers, offering exhibits showcasing the natural history of Caesar Creek Gorge and a fascinating chronicle of the area’s prehistoric Native American cultures. Be sure to check out the gift shop at the Visitor Center for a souvenir from your visit.
Afternoon: Enjoy a unique shopping experience at Shoppes at the Old Mill, a wonderful array of antique and specialty shops located in a century old mill. Take a tour of the Clinton County Court House built in 1918, which is an outstanding example of the Second Renaissance Revival that has been reworked to its original luster. Lunch is served at the historic General Denver Hotel built in the 1928; it is named in honor of a hero of the Mexican and Civil Wars, and one of Wilmington’s most adventuresome citizens.
Mid Afternoon: Explore North America’s largest pre-historic Indian hilltop enclosure, Ft Ancient. Explore Ohio’s American Indian heritage at this 100-acre enclosure on a high bluff overlooking the Scenic Little Miami River. Discover the lifestyles of these cultures through guided tours of the museum and site. Sit back in your comfortable motorcoach as a step-on guide points out the various mounds and tells of the ancient civilizations.
Evening: Enjoy fine dining at the historic Golden Lamb, Ohio’s oldest operating inn, where you can view many of the 18 guest rooms that have hosted famous political and literary figures of the 19th century. View Sarah’s room filled with antique toys and furnishings. Arrange for a guide to tell a few stories about the inn and some of its famous guests.
