Celebrating Freedom & History: The 6th Annual Springboro Juneteenth Jubilee

By Guest Contributor: Leena Rekhi-Salmon, Vice President, Springboro Juneteenth Jubilee

Mark your calendars! A powerful and joyous community festival is returning to the historic streets of Springboro. On Saturday, June 20, 2026, from 10:00 AM to 3:00 PM, people will gather for the 6th Annual Springboro Juneteenth Jubilee. This free, family-friendly event is a beautiful opportunity to commemorate a pivotal moment in American history, celebrate freedom, and honor the deep, historic roots Springboro has in the fight for freedom.

Springboro’s Unique Connection
Did you know that Springboro holds a significant piece of this legacy? The community was founded by Quakers who actively opposed slavery, transforming the town into a major, vital stop on the Underground Railroad. In fact, Springboro boasts 26 documented safe houses—the most of any city in Ohio! When we celebrate Juneteenth here, we are directly honoring the local families and freedom seekers who walked these very streets in pursuit of liberty.

Why We Celebrate: The Heart of Juneteenth
Juneteenth commemorates June 19, 1865—the day federal troops arrived in Galveston, Texas, to ensure that all 250,000 enslaved people in Texas were freed. This monumental day came a full two and a half years after the signing of the Emancipation Proclamation and more than 2 months after the Confederate Army surrendered to the Union Army at the Appomattox Court House. Today, Juneteenth represents a national moment for education, resilience, unity, and a shared commitment to equity and inclusion.

What’s Happening at the 2026 Jubilee?
Gather on East North Street (right next to the Springboro History Museum) for a vibrant block-party atmosphere right in the heart of Historic Springboro.

Here is a taste of what you can look forward to between 10 AM and 3 PM:

Plus, there is a special treat at the K&W for all the kiddos who complete the scavenger hunt! Incredible Food Trucks: Come hungry! Some of the best food trucks will be serving up delicious eats and treats.
