Participant Field Taking Shape for 2018 World Ultimate Club Championships

Warren County, OH (September 27, 2017) – More than 3,000 athletes from across the globe are now officially set to make their way to Warren County, Ohio next summer to compete in the World Flying Disc Federation’s (WFDF) 2018 World Ultimate Club Championships (WUCC), the Warren County Convention & Visitors Bureau (WCCVB) has announced.

The international tournament, scheduled to be held at the Lebanon Sports Complex, as well as numerous other Warren County facilities from July 14-21, has narrowed its field of potential participants down from more than 250 hopeful club teams to an official list of 128.Among those making the cut are competitive Ultimate teams from 35 different countries, including Australia, Chile, China, Estonia, Germany, India, Korea, Mexico, Russia, Singapore and Tanzania. The tournament will be among the largest sporting events ever hosted in the region and will be a significant source of economic impact for Warren County, according to Ben Huffman, Director of Sports Marketing for the WCCVB.

“The sport of Ultimate is enjoying an all-time spike in global popularity, and that’s evidenced by events like these that bring thousands of athletes and fans from around the world to communities like ours,” Huffman said. “Our staff has been working around the clock alongside the Cincinnati Ultimate Players Association, USA Ultimate and the WFDF to make this happen, and we could not be more excited to see it all come together next summer.”

Huffman estimates the WFDF WUCC will generate approximately $3 million in economic impact for Warren County, while also accounting for an estimated 10,000 room nights at local hotels and bed & breakfasts.

Warren County was named host of the event following a lengthy selection process - an accomplishment Phillip S. Smith, President and CEO of the WCCVB, attributes to the county’s many off-the-field offerings.

“While there are certainly other destinations around the world capable of hosting sporting events of this caliber, what really makes our county stand out to sporting event planners is our ability to deliver top-notch experiences both on and off the field to visiting athletes, coaches and spectators,” Smith said.

The WFDF WUCC won’t be Warren County’s first experience hosting an Ultimate event. The WCCVB has worked locally with the Cincinnati Ultimate Players Association to host more than 20 events over the past ten years, including the 2017 USA Ultimate College Nationals, which took place this past Memorial Day Weekend.
