Warren County Celebrates National Travel & Tourism Week

WARREN COUNTY, OH (May 5, 2017) – In celebration of National Travel and Tourism Week, the Warren County Convention & Visitors Bureau (WCCVB) recognizes the tourism industry's social and economic impact at the county, state and national levels.

Celebrated each May, National Travel & Tourism Week serves to encourage recreational travel nationwide, highlighting its importance to the job market, as well as both economic and personal development. This year's celebration will span from May 7-13.

According to the United States Travel Association (USTA), tourism accounts for $2.3 trillion in economic output annually, and generated $990.3 billion in direct travel-related spending in the United States in 2016. The industry also ranked among the top 10 employers of American workers in 49 of 50 states, as well as the District of Columbia last year.

Locally, Warren County enjoyed record visitation in 2016, welcoming nearly 12 million tourism-related visitors, while generating $1.168 billion in visitor spending and supporting 12,244 tourism-related jobs according to a study by the State of Ohio. The county’s number one industry, tourism accounts for one in every nine jobs, or 11 percent of its workforce.

"Tourism is as impactful an industry as any here in Warren County, and its importance has only continued to grow year after year,” said Phillip S. Smith, President & CEO of the WCCVB. "We’re incredibly fortunate to have the kind of unique attractions, hotels, shopping and restaurants it takes to thrive as a tourism destination. The fact that we are easily accessible geographically is, of course, another appealing consideration for travelers. We are proud to support the USTA in their efforts to highlight our industry’s significance.”Visit USTravel.org to learn more about National Travel & Tourism Week.
